this will be kind of a dumping ground (affectionate) of just various things i'm passionate about, accompanied by a brief description of how/why i like them
and/or some relevant links.
also, i'm gonna center things that maybe aren't as popular among the types of people using neocities, no offense. it just makes the list more interesting i think.
more like based ball am i right LOLOLOLOLOL
but seriously i've been a fan of baseball since i was a little kid playing rec ball and sucking at it. granted i needed glasses so no wonder i couldn't hit
the ball.
i chose the tigers as my favorite team despite growing up in south florida because i liked that Miguel Cabrera won the batting triple crown, which nowadays is
viewed far less prestigiously since RBIs are pretty unreliable stats. and also the rays were too far away and NOBODY wants to root for the marlins.
i quickly became very autistic about the sport, watching MLB network as much as, if not more than cartoon network or nick.
despite stopping playing in 7th grade i still followed baseball religiously via stats and fantasy baseball. I stopped following the game entirely around 2017/2018
unfortunately for no real reason at all.
BUT i came back around the end of 2023 into 2024 and it has been wonderful :3
the tigers are genuinely the best team in the AL right now (may 17th 2025) and i have friends who are at least into sports generally that i can talk shop with.
i cannot recommend enough getting into sports, ideally your local team in whatever sport feels right to you. see if any of your friends are into any sports
or individual teams, and just start watching games with them. the fever will catch on and it's great for community building.
as a plus, being a fan of your local team can really help you connect with the people in your city/state. while baseball doesn't have a presence in my state, basketball
very much does, and my friends have made me fans of my local basketball team.
Diplomacy is a board game that's kinda like chess, played on a map of europe, where you communicate with 6 other players to form alliances and backstab each other.
that's how i like to describe it anyway, but a bunch of other people have probably put it more elegantly.
valefisk is one of those people, and his 2 videos playing diplomacy with friends were what convinced me to give it a try. i highly recommend ALL of his videos by the way.
they're incredibly funny and super well produced despite happening in discord calls and (not always but often) tabletop simulator.
anyway, diplomacy is a pretty easy game to learn how to play, and there's dedicated communities on web dip and discord if
you're interested in checking out the game :)
there's also very active diplomacy variant communities where people make their own maps and often add custom rules to spice up the game, especially since the meta
for classic diplomacy is "solved" at the top level.
the biggest variant by far (at least right now, may 2025) is Imperial Diplomacy, with 25 players on one world map set
in the 1640s.
HUGE shoutout to Elle and Flare for making the variant btw!!! it's getting very well balanced and extremely fun to play.
i've also made a college football diplomacy variant which you could check out under the creations tab :3
other variants i have in the works are florida diplomacy, as well as a general north american variant and a world variant, which are far from complete.
